Hundreds of students starting courses at Walsall College in September attended a series of introduction days this week to get a better idea of what college life is really like and meet other students. The fun and interactive welcome events took place at the college’s Wisemore Campus and Business and Sports Hub, and were designed to give students the opportunity to find out more about the range of activities they can take part in alongside their courses.

The college’s Students’ Union, Finance, Work Experience and Volunteering teams were on hand with advice for new students about the support available to them and different ways they can make the most of their time at the college, including boosting their CVs and signing up to different clubs.

Students could also take park in a variety of activities to test their skills including a buzzwire, light chaser, photo booth, race simulator, crime scene investigation, team building challenge and English and maths quizzes.

In addition, information was available on all the college facilities open to students and the public, including the Graduate Academy hair and beauty salon, sports hall, gym and spa, business start up centre and Littleton Restaurant.

Emily Venables, enrolling on to the Level 2 Media Make-up course in September, attended the event and said: “I’m really looking forward to joining the college as I’ve heard a lot of good things from friends that are have been here, and the facilities for my course are fantastic.”

Also at the event was Tyler Peach, 16, who will be studying Travel and Tourism at the college from September. He said: “I applied here as it offered the best course to help me get the job I want in the future. My aim is to work in the travel industry and I’m excited about starting this course.”

Walsall College Principal and Chief Executive, Jatinder Sharma OBE, said: “We are passionate about creating an inclusive environment where students feel supported and inspired to achieve the skills and qualifications that will give them a head start in the workplace or at university.

“I am delighted so many students have chosen to continue their learning journey with us and we look forward to welcoming them again in September.”
