The GINA Project and Ovacome in Birmingham have been awarded a cash donation from TalkTalk’s Future Fibre Fund and is set to receive a combined total of £1,500 to support their local community project and initiatives. The Future Fibre Fund received nearly 50 applications across Birmingham, Greater Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool from youth club projects to organisations supporting people with disabilities.

TalkTalk chose The GINA Project and Ovacome in Birmingham due to their outstanding work to support the needs of the local community and commitment to changing lives for the better for those living in Birmingham. Ovacome is an ovarian cancer charity focused on providing support to those affected from its support hub.

The group offers locals the chance to meet and connect through its regular support groups to ensure people are not suffering alone. The GINA Project is a social enterprise offering private specialist support and counselling services for survivors of sexual violence and abuse in Birmingham.

Charities and community groups based in Liverpool, Greater Manchester and Leeds were also invited to apply for a one-off donation from TalkTalk. Across the four cities, the donations will go towards several incredible community projects including the purchasing of vital supplies and tech equipment, sending volunteers on sign language courses, counselling, and funding community days out.

Bronagh McCloskey, Head of CSR at TalkTalk, said: “We are extremely pleased to be supporting Ovacome and The GINA Project in Birmingham with a combined total of £1,500 donation to help with the important work they do, as we roll out full fibre across the city.”

Head of Support Services at Ovacome, Anna Hudson, said: “We are extremely grateful to receive this donation from TalkTalk, as it will allow us to run more support groups for anyone affected by ovarian cancer in the West Midlands. This donation will go towards purchasing necessary equipment to run our support events as hybrid sessions, so that people can attend online or in person, depending on their circumstances."
