Continuing their commitment to raising awareness around the benefits of moving and maintaining an active lifestyle and mental health, Decathlon is proud to partner with RED January in 2022.

A free nationwide initiative, RED January empowers people of all abilities and backgrounds to move every day in January to improve their mental health.

Decathlon shares this common goal of inspiring people to get active in order to help everyone lead healthier and happier lives, making this a natural partnership.

Participants will be encouraged to “Move every day, your way”, with Decathlon keen to highlight the many different options there are when it comes to exercise. Whether it’s going for a 5km run, cycling to and from work, or simply walking around your local area, physical activity is proven to help reduce stress levels, anxiety and depression, all of which works to improve mental health.

Taking their commitment one step further, Decathlon has also launched a new and exclusive range of co-branded merchandise. The range includes a RED January t-shirt for adults and this year a t-shirt designed for kids, both produced from an Eco-design fabric made from recycled polyester, and ensures the whole family can get active together.

In addition, there is a RED January snood to help participants beat the chill and keep active, no matter the outdoor weather. All profits from the range will be donated to UK mental health sports’ charity, Sport in Mind, supporting the organisation’s mission that uses sport and physical activity to improve the lives of people experiencing mental health.

January is typically a challenging month for many people’s mental health and following the past two years, it’s now more important than ever to focus on our physical and mental wellbeing. For many, the new year also represents an opportunity to start afresh, and Decathlon hopes to inspire the nation to make positive and permanent changes to their lives.

As one of the UK’s leading sports providers, Decathlon is well placed to help the nation maintain a healthy body and mind during this difficult time. Their PLAY platform offers free expert sports advice and tips, with over 1,500 live articles and videos, and more added regularly.

By encouraging the nation to get active every day, Decathlon and RED January are dedicated to positively impacting lives in the UK this January and helping the nation lead happier and more active lifestyles in the following months and years.

Hannah Beecham, Founder and CEO of RED January, says: “I was originally inspired to start RED January after witnessing the transformative effect that regular movement had on my mum’s mental health. Since then, over 250,000 people have kick started their year in a positive way!

“We know that the nation needs a positive goal to get them through this challenging period in time, and we strongly believe that RED January 2022 can help. To help us reach and empower more people to move for their mental health at a time when they need us most, we're incredibly proud to be in partnership with Decathlon UK. Last year they helped us reach thousands of new people and we’re sure this January will see more people than ever support themselves with daily movement!”

Getting involved in the campaign is simple - sign up at redtogether.co.uk to join thousands getting involved. Participants can pick their own favourite way to move and set their own goals for activity levels. While many do an activity they know well, more than a quarter (28%) pick a new one.

Chris Gilroy, Marketing & Communications Director at Decathlon UK, adds; “As a company full of sports lovers, we know that leading a physically active lifestyle can have a hugely beneficial effect on your mental health. Therefore, as one of the UK’s largest sports providers, we strongly believe in our responsibility to help empower the British public to get physically active and healthy through a passion for sport.

“We are very proud to partner with RED January because we’ve seen the impact it has on people’s lives. We want to bring the joy and benefits of sport to everyone in the UK and this partnership represents our commitment to improving the lives of British people. So, let’s go RED for January, and move for our mind.”
