Commenting on the publication of the Programme for Government, Dublin Chamber CEO Mary Rose Burke stated: "This is an ambitious policy framework that aligns with many of the priorities Dublin Chamber has long advocated for.
“We particularly welcome the inclusion of recommendations from the recent Dublin Taskforce, which highlight critical issues such as cleaner streets, a stronger Garda presence, and a more attractive, liveable city. These priorities are not new, and as we have previously emphasised, their real value lies in delivery.
“By embedding these commitments into the Programme for Government, we strongly urge the Government to ensure their full implementation within its term." Ms Burke stressed the importance of strategic investment in infrastructure, noting: "Housing, water, and transport infrastructure feature prominently in the programme, and we call on the incoming Ministers to act with urgency.
“With the Greater Dublin Area experiencing rapid growth, investment in key projects—such as DART+, LUAS expansions, MetroLink, BusConnects—is more critical than ever. These initiatives, alongside the acceleration of new and affordable housing developments and essential water infrastructure and a Grid to support renewable ambitions, must be prioritised to secure Dublin’s future and ensure it remains a competitive and attractive global city."
Mary (pic) also highlighted the broader geopolitical and technological context: "This Programme for Government must be delivered against a backdrop of geopolitical uncertainty, rapid technological advancements, and the transformative impact of AI. As global competition intensifies, Dublin and Ireland must position as leaders in innovation, digital infrastructure, and sustainable urban development.
“Ensuring the right policies and investments are in place will be essential to maintaining Ireland’s economic resilience and global competitiveness."
Concluding, Ms Burke emphasised the need for clear commitments, cross-departmental coordination, and long-term vision:
"This Government has a unique opportunity to shape Dublin into a world-class capital that drives Ireland’s economic success. However, ambition must be matched with urgency. Delivering on these commitments requires clear deadlines, cross-departmental collaboration, and a bold vision that embraces technological change while addressing pressing infrastructure and societal needs. A thriving, well-connected, and resilient capital is essential—not just for those who live and work here, but for the prosperity of the entire country. Now is the time for decisive action."
