Erdington Councillors Robert Alden and Gareth Moore are celebrating success after it was confirmed that Erdington High Street will get a new dedicated Police team in addition to the Ward based team that covers the Birmingham suburb.

Cllrs. Robert Alden (right in pic) and Gareth Moore have been leading the campaign for a permanent Police team over the last year both to help tackle the issues on the High Street and, since the launch of Operation Fearless, for a team to provide long term maintenance of the progress made so by operation fearless so far this year tackling crime and ASB locally. The New Erdington High Street team, which has been on trial since the start of the month working alongside the Operation Fearless team, brings 6 additional dedicated constables creating a high visibility presence on the High Street.

This new team has been backed up by the Erdington Business Improvement District team whose wardens and Town Centre Manager will be working closely with the Police to carry out joint patrols and sharing intelligence and known criminal activity and repeat offenders to keep residents and shoppers safe. Cllr. Robert Alden, Vice Chair of the Erdington Business Improvement District, (Erdington, Conservative) said “having these extra Police officers on our High Street is vital for helping deliver our aspirations to make Erdington an even better place to live, work and socialise.

“Thank you to the efforts of our new BID manager who has done a fantastic job linking up with the local Police and building a bridge between the businesses and Police to help this happen”. Cllr. Gareth Moore (Erdington, Conservative) said “Having two local Police teams in Erdington, one for the High Street and one for the residential streets that make up the rest of the ward, is a huge bonus for our area.

“This extra resource should help to deliver the enforcement action and visible policing that residents have rightly been calling for all across Erdington”. Robert added: “Thank you to everyone who has backed our campaigns over the last year calling for action and thank you to West Midlands Police and Police and Crime Commissioner for listening to residents’ concerns and our calls for an extra dedicated Police Team and delivering, thank you!”.
