Italy remains stable at the top of the rating for international presences. This is one of the key messages that has emerged from ENIT's research on Istat, Unwto and Bank of Italy data that will be at the centre of the debate in the panels of the National Tourism Agency at the WTM in London from 7 to 9 November 2022.

 

The event is considered a must for the tourism sector and the National Tourism Agency will promote itself on stand with over 1700 square meters in partnership with the Italian Regions. During World Travel Market, Italian and world stakeholders will present new trends and destinations offering an opportunity for the tourism industry to meet and discuss their experiences.

Great attention is paid to the UK market which annually moves over 100 million investments, especially for cultural holidays in cities of art and by the sea. Five regions at the top of the preferences of the British: Lombardy, Lazio, Tuscany, Veneto and Campania.

Positive data for Italy which is registering growth from every country with revenues of 21.3 billion euros (+ 22.7% on 2020; -52.0% on 2019), with a market share that has risen to 4, 2% from 3.6% in 2020, bringing Italy to fourth place on the global scale for international tourism revenues. The shares of Spain also increased during the year (from 3.4% to 5.6%), while those of the USA (from 13.3% to 11.4%) and Germany (from 4.1%) decreased. at 3.6%).

From UNWTO data, arrivals in the first seven months of the year reached 57% of pre-pandemic levels. Compared to the same period of 2021, in the period January-July 2022 the arrivals of international tourists almost tripled (+ 172%).

CEO, Enit Roberta Garibaldi, says: “Travelers from the United Kingdom are, in fact, at the top of the ranking of foreign tourists who have come to Italy to spend a holiday. Interestingly, they prefer hospitality in hotels (10 million admissions, equal to 73.5% of the total) but do not disdain tourist villages. To push the British to come to Italy are, first and foremost, the cultural attractions, followed by the beaches and the possibility of practicing sports on vacation."
