It’s been widely reported that former Aston Villa, Birmingham City and Newcastle United manager, Steve Bruce, could be set for a surprise return to football, having been said to have been interviewed for the vacant post of leading the Jamaican national team.

Just two years after he was sacked by EFL side, West Bromwich Albion, he has been interviewed for the job, with a decision expected in the very near future. It comes after the Reggae Boyz’ former boss, Heimir Hallgrímsson, with the Icelandic manager resigning at the end of June, after Jamaica exited the Copa America without picking up a single point.

While Bruce hasn't managed a national team before, the 63-year-old also boasts the likes of Wigan Athletic, Hull City and Sunderland on his managerial CV. Bruce’s tenures, though, will not be remembered fondly, not just for the failure to gain promotion – at Villa - but for his brand of football and the way he divided the fanbase.

Despite being out of football for two years, he has repeatedly refused to call time on his management career and could now be heading for his first international role. “I’m a serious contender,” the Georgie man said. Jamaica parted company with Hallgrímsson after their Copa America campaign ended in three straight defeats.

Despite his Newcastle origins, it was whilst he was there that he became truly loathed by fans after almost relegating his hometown team. Whilst managing at Villa Park, Bruce had a 45 per cent win ratio.
