The 2022 Best of Jamaica survey results were announced at the Best of Jamaica 2022 Results Show aired on the Facebook and YouTube pages of Jamaicans.com. The winners of the Best of Jamaica awards were selected by the readers and staff of Jamaicans.com who were surveyed about their favourites of the year 2022 in the categories of “Jamaican Person,” Jamaican Sports Personality,” “Jamaican Reggae Artist,” “Best TV Personality Host in Jamaica,” “Best Jamaican Radio or Online Personality”, “Best Jamaican Patty”, “Jamaican Restaurant” and more.
The survey focused on 21 individual geographic regions around the world, and its results revealed the best dining, shopping, recreation, and all-around Jamaican cultural experiences available in each location. The awards show, the biggest event of the year for Jamaicans.com, was co-hosted by media personality Jody Ann Gray and the founder of Jamaicans.com, Xavier Murphy, and is available for viewing on the Facebook, and YouTube pages of Jamaicans.com.
Jamaican Olympic champion sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was the winner in two categories: Jamaican Person of the Year and Jamaican Sports Personality of the Year. Fraser-Pryce, who is nicknamed “Pocket Rocket,” has achieved one of the most enduring track careers of all time and was named the greatest female sprinter of her generation by World Athletics. With a personal best time of 10.60 seconds in the 100 meters, she ranks as the third-fastest woman in history. In 2019, Fraser-Pryce was listed by the BBC among the 100 most inspiring and influential women in the world.
Beres Hammond was voted the Best Jamaican Reggae Artist of 2022. Through his own label, Harmony House Records, in 1985, he brought out albums displaying early dancehall style. Hammond established himself as a top lovers-rock artist throughout the 1990s and performed at the opening ceremony of the 2007 Cricket World Cup in Jamaica. In 2012, his album, “One Love, One Life,” reached Number 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. He was awarded the Order of Jamaica in 2013 for his contributions to Jamaica’s music industry.
The winner in the category of Best TV Personality Host in Jamaica for 2022 was Dahlia Harris. Dahlia Harris has appeared on Jamaica’s national television for many years in the roles of sports presenter, popular host of “Smile Jamaica,” and everything in between. A graduate of Wolmer’s Girls’ School and a former Festival Queen representing St. Catherine in 1990, Harris has also had a stellar career in theatre and drama.
She won two Actor Boy awards and has won numerous awards for her acting and producing projects. She was inducted into the Caribbean Hall of Fame, received the Excellence in Personal Branding Award, and was presented with the Distinguished Woman award by Flair newspapers in 2019. She convened the first-of-its-kind Jamaican Women in Theatre Festival and was a pioneer of female sports journalism in the country.
Chiney K Pop Girl was chosen as the Best Jamaican Radio Or Online Personality of 2022. Kerry Ann Collings, better known as social media influencer Chiney K Pop Girl, creates comedy skits and vlogs, including the popular web series “On My Mind” and “Fire It Up” on Fyah 105. Her goal is to inspire young people toward the pursuit of their dreams and to encourage them to follow their unique, individual paths to success. Also, a successful entrepreneur, Chiney K Pop Girl established her own line of natural, organic hair and beauty products, Joli Faire Hair and Joli Faire Beauty.
The Best of Jamaica 2022 is based on the results of two surveys: The Best of Jamaica Abroad and The Best of Jamaica in Jamaica. The questions ask respondents to name what they believe to be the best Jamaican restaurants, Jamaican beaches, Jamaican patties, and more.
The Best of Jamaica Abroad asked those who live outside of Jamaica in the Jamaican Diaspora communities in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Dallas, Hartford, Houston, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, New Jersey, Oakland, Orlando, Palm Beach, Philadelphia, Tampa, Toronto, Washington DC and San Francisco, questions including What Is the Best Jamaican Restaurant in New York and Where is the best place to get a Jamaican Patty in Miami? The Best of Jamaica in Jamaica asked locals and recent island visitors to name the best Tourist Attraction in Jamaica, Jamaica’s Best Overall Beach, Best Hotel, Best Restaurant, Best Jerk Chicken, Best Patties, Best Escovitch Fish, Best Jamaican Reggae Artist, Best TV Personality/Host, Best Jamaican Reggae Music Video of 2022, and Best Jamaican Social Media Page (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok). The answers to these questions were recently announced on the Best of Jamaica Results Show and posted on Jamaicans.com.
