The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with Prince George and Princess Charlotte, are due to arrive in Canada on Saturday, 24 September. With offices both at home in London and in Vancouver, global deals company Travelzoo has put together a guide on how to follow in the Royal footsteps around Vancouver, and what to see and do along the way.

UK visitors are now the second-largest group of inbound tourists to Canada, and Destination Canada has revealed the numbers are up 10% year on year. A recent Travelzoo survey also found that nearly half (49%) of Canadian travellers are drawn to Britain as a destination because of the Royal Family, so we're sure the Royal couple will receive a very warm welcome!

Victoria, Vancouver Island - The Royal Family will start their tour in Victoria, named by the British back in 1843 (after William's great-great-great-great-grandmother). A whale-watching tour is a must – we've found this tour that leaves from the very same harbour that Wills and Kate will arrive into via float plane. Whales have been known to come into this harbour, disrupting the runway! Around the corner from Victoria's Inner Harbour, Fisherman's Wharf is a great place to visit and you can purchase fish from a small kiosk to feed the seals. The whole place is floating, has charming houseboats and lots of restaurants serving the freshest fish.

Gastown, Vancouver - Kate and Wills actually move onto Downtown Eastside (the children will be staying at Government House with their nanny), but our deal experts much prefer the area of Gastown, known for its trendy bars and restaurants. Visitors should stop by the Gastown Steam Clock, which is in fact now powered by electric motors as well as steam power. The clock puts on a fun display and sounds its whistles every quarter hour and also on the hour.

Telus Garden, Vancouver - The next stop for the Royal couple is Telus Garden in Downtown Vancouver. Downtown is the city's primary business district, home to lots of sports and entertainment venues and world-famous Stanley Park. One of the main tourist destinations, Stanley Park might be the prettiest urban park around. Our deal experts recommend renting a bike and doing the 9-kilometre seawall route. Another hidden gem in the park is the little pitch-and-putt golf course, which costs less than $13 for 18 holes. Stanley Park may just be the most picturesque spot to try and snap a selfie with the Duchess of Cambridge!

Kitsilano, Vancouver - This is a great neighbourhood in the city; it is filled with boutique shops and has plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from. Kits, as it's known by the locals, is famous for having one of the best beaches in Vancouver – make the most of the long stretches of sand overlooking Downtown and the North Shore Mountains with a game of volleyball, or rent a kayak to get a different view of the beach. Top tips from our deal experts include heading slightly inland to treat yourself to an ice cream from Rain or Shine (the salted caramel flavour comes highly recommended) before getting back to the beach in time to watch the sunset.
