Thousands of children, young people, and families across Haringey are set to enjoy unforgettable school holidays after the government announced a three-year extension of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme.

Some £600million is being invested across the country to continue the major scheme, which supports children’s health, wellbeing and learning, while also easing the financial pressure on families. Children who attend HAF programmes will enjoy free places at holiday camps, memorable outings with their families, and have access to nutritious, delicious meals throughout the Easter, Summer, and Winter school breaks.

The programme is open to children aged 5 to 16 who are eligible for free school meals, and provides a safe, inclusive environment where young people can make new friends, try new activities, and create lasting memories. From sports and crafts to music and outdoor adventures, the HAF programme is designed to enrich lives and build confidence.

This summer alone, Haringey allocated over £500,000 to 26 local providers, supporting approximately 1,175 activity spaces every day. These partnerships—with schools, voluntary organisations, and childcare providers—ensure that children across the borough have access to engaging, nourishing experiences during the holidays.

Councillor Zena Brabazon, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools, and Families, said: “We’re immensely proud of the difference the HAF programme continues to make across our community.

“With fresh government funding and the backing of our fantastic local partners, we’re now in a stronger position to reach even more families—making sure every child can enjoy enriching activities and healthy meals throughout the school holidays. This joint effort reflects our unwavering commitment to nurturing the wellbeing, growth, and potential of every young person in Haringey.”

The HAF programme stands as a powerful reflection of Haringey’s commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive space for every young person. It plays a vital role in boosting academic progress, nurturing social development, and building confidence.

With this long-term investment, they can think ahead, drive innovation, and strengthen partnerships that make a lasting difference for families across our borough.
