A care home resident and lifelong Wolves fan went on a trip down memory lane at his favourite team’s home ground. Team members at Care UK’s Foxland Grange, in Tettenhall, arranged a surprise trip to a football stadium for resident Fred Green after hearing about his 55 years as a Wolves fan and memories spent watching the football team in action as a child.

The team at Foxland Grange contacted the club after Fred expressed his lifelong wish of going behind the scenes of his favourite football club. After the care home told the club about the community work Fred did throughout his career, which involved coaching younger players in grassroots football teams, the club wanted to reward Fred and kindly offered him the full VIP treatment, including a private tour around the pitch, changing rooms, grounds and trophy room.

Commenting on the surprise visit, Fred said: “The experience of going back to Wolverhampton Wanderers was absolutely incredible. I am so grateful for the chance to have returned to Molineux Stadium for a special tour thanks to the team at Foxland Grange. Reminiscing about my football days certainly brought back many lovely memories.”

Su Edmonds, General Manager at Foxland Grange, said: “We always like to go the extra-mile for residents here at Foxland Grange, and make their wishes come true, no matter how small – or unusual. Fred speaks so fondly of the time he’s spent supporting Wolves, so we were really excited to be able to make his wish of returning to Molineux Stadium for a special tour after so many years come true.

“Fred was thrilled when we surprised him with the VIP tour, and he was so excited to be back at Wolves’ home ground – even making his way onto the pitch. It was fantastic to see Fred enjoying the visit, and we were pleased to be able to give him the opportunity to reminisce at a place that has meant so much to him since his childhood.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives while also promoting independence, Foxland Grange incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
