A great week of top-class athletics got off to a great start with a fantastic line-up of international stars lining up to take part in this, the latest edition of the UK Athletics Indoor Championships took place at the Utilita Arena, in Birmingham.

Reece Prescod and Daryll Neita proved to be two of the headline acts on day one of a weekend of great sporting and moth-watering action as the sprint king and queen claimed gold medals in their respective 60m finals - Prescod beat Jeremiah Azu and Eugene Amo-Dadzie with a time of 6.54, whilst Neita crossed the line in 7.17 seconds, ahead of Asha Philip and Alisha Rees.

A new athletics track for Utilita Arena Birmingham, purchased by Birmingham City Council, is set to host its first event this weekend in the shape of the UK Athletics Indoor Championships.

The track replaces the original, used at the city centre venue since its opening in 1991 – with the £1.7million investment acting as a catalyst for the council to secure a ten-year event partnership with UK Athletics, which underlines Birmingham’s status as the home of indoor athletics.

A message of support was shared during a game between the Republic of Ireland and Portugal last year. A trial of referees wearing body cameras in adult grassroots football to help prevent abuse could start early next year.

The Football Association says it has asked the sport's lawmakers, the International Football Association Board (Ifab), for permission to start the trial.

On the 7th of February, 2023, LeBron James did the unthinkable by surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time points-scoring record of 38,387 points in the NBA. LeBron James became the NBA's all-time leading scorer after his 38 points, for Los Angeles Lakers, in their 133-130 defeat by the Oklahoma City Thunder, passed fellow-Laker legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's long-standing record of 38,387, set in 1989.

Needing 36 points to break the record, James 38, broke the record with a fadeaway jumper at the end of the third quarter and he finished the match with a career total of 38,390. In front of a cheering crowd that included tennis legend John McEnroe, music stars Jay-Z, LL Cool J and Bad Bunny, boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr and actor Denzel Washington, Abdul-Jabbar ceremoniously handed over the ball to James to recognise his new record.

Grace Wales Bonner is continuing her relationship with Adidas with a new collaboration. The British fashion designer and the sports giant revealed on Monday a collection with the Jamaican Football Federation, with Wales Bonner creating the football kits for the players.

The collection is the first under a four-year partnership between Adidas and the Jamaican Football Federation. Wales Bonner’s football kits include home, away and pre-match jerseys, as well as a reversible anthem jacket for the women’s team, known as Reggae Girlz, and the men’s team, known as Reggae Boyz. 

Talks with Nigerian billionaire Dozy Mmobuosi is at an advanced stage as he bids to takeover English Championship club Sheffield United.

Mmobuosi, the founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of Tingo Inc, the parent company of Tingo Mobile, has been in talks with the Championship promotion contenders' owner Prince Abdullah,

The Brazilian Football Confederation said that it sent a letter to FIFA calling for a crackdown on racism in the sport, after a series of incidents targeting players including Brazil star Vinicius Junior.

The CBF told AFP it had also addressed the letter to European football's governing body, UEFA, and the South American confederation, a.k.a. CONMEBOL, urging stronger action to fight racism and raise awareness about a problem that has long dogged the sport.

UK Athletics (UKA) has outlined its position relating to transgender participation in athletics in the UK.
