A new athletics track for Utilita Arena Birmingham, purchased by Birmingham City Council, is set to host its first event this weekend in the shape of the UK Athletics Indoor Championships.

The track replaces the original, used at the city centre venue since its opening in 1991 – with the £1.7million investment acting as a catalyst for the council to secure a ten-year event partnership with UK Athletics, which underlines Birmingham’s status as the home of indoor athletics.

Grace Wales Bonner is continuing her relationship with Adidas with a new collaboration. The British fashion designer and the sports giant revealed on Monday a collection with the Jamaican Football Federation, with Wales Bonner creating the football kits for the players.

The collection is the first under a four-year partnership between Adidas and the Jamaican Football Federation. The Brazilian Football Confederation said that it sent a letter to FIFA calling for a crackdown on racism in the sport, after a series of incidents targeting players including Brazil star Vinicius Junior.

The CBF told AFP it had also addressed the letter to European football's governing body, UEFA, and the South American confederation, a.k.a. CONMEBOL, urging stronger action to fight racism and raise awareness about a problem that has long dogged the sport.
