UK Athletics (UKA) has outlined its position relating to transgender participation in athletics in the UK.

The statement confirms the organisation’s preference for competition categories, but also outlines the key challenges in achieving this under current legislation. To view please see attached document.

The Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad for the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia (18 February) has been selected. Selection was based on the aims of the policy which were capability of team medal success at the Championship; supporting senior athlete preparation for future global track success; and providing opportunities for developing junior athletes with the potential for future success at Cross Country championships.

Several eligible athletes were not available for selection due to not expressing an interest and prioritising other race plans. However, GB & NI will have representation across all races within the Championships.

Some supporters will be permitted to stand during the EFL Cup final between Manchester United and Newcastle United. The match, on 26 February, will be the first major domestic English men's final in almost 35 years in which standing will be allowed.

Both clubs will be allocated 867 seats within new standing areas located behind each goal at Wembley Stadium. Premier League and EFL clubs have been allowed to introduce standing areas since the start of the 2022-23 season.

The International Series returns in 2023, making its Middle Eastern debut at Al Mouj Golf, Oman, from 9-12 February with the Asian Tour’s enhanced tournament series’ strongest field to date. The 132-player field including golfers from 23 countries across 6 continents is headlined by major winners Sergio Garcia, Graeme McDowell, Louis Oosthuizen, and Charl Schwartzel.

The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) have announced that five new franchises are set to compete in the inaugural season of the 2023 Women's Premier League (WPL). Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, Lucknow and Mumbai are the successful host cities, with a combined £465m input from new team owners - five of which currently oversee the IPL's Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore franchises.

Trent Rockets and Southern Brave will open the 2023 edition of The Hundred on 1 August at Trent Bridge. All fixtures this season will be double-headers, with both the men's and women's competitions starting at the same time.

Reigning World Indoor 60m Hurdles champion Grant Holloway (USA) has been confirmed to race in the short sprint hurdles at the Birmingham World Tour Final on Saturday 25 February 2023.

The 2022 indoor season was a huge success for Holloway as he broke Colin Jackson’s long-standing world record when he clocked 7.29s in Madrid. It sliced 0.01s off the Briton’s time from 1994 to re-write the record books. Following his record-breaking exploits, the American went on to win his maiden world indoor title in Belgrade.

The last time India won the hockey World Cup, things were quite different. It was nearly half a century ago and Indira Gandhi was prime minister when India lifted the cup in March 1975 in Kuala Lumpur - eight years ahead of India's first-ever World Cup win in cricket.

It's been a long time since that historic win, 48 years to be precise. Ranked fifth in the world, India is hosting the Hockey World Cup for the second straight edition.

It’s one month to go until the UK Athletics Indoor Championships return to the Utilita Arena in Birmingham across the weekend 18-19 February 2023.

With the event acting as the Official Trials for the 2023 European Indoor Championships in Istanbul, athletes will be looking to book their places on the plane to Turkey.
