With the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in full swing, we take a look back at the final days leading up to the sport, as the Queen’s Baton Relay took centre stage, connecting with communities through the host region of the West Midlands.

The regional tour was made even more significant as it represented the Queen’s Baton returning home, as it was designed and manufactured in an innovative West Midlands collaboration that fused art, technology, and science.

Coventry-based boxing apparel company BOXRAW have kitted out the Anguilla team participating at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. In a game-changing donation, BOXRAW stepped in to provide top-quality training and competition kit for the Anguilla team after they were nearly forced to pull out of the Games due to a lack of kit.  

In celebration of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, one of Birmingham’s leading Greek restaurants, Kouzina Greek, treated guests to a taste of Cyprus as over the weekend of 30th – 31st July. With Cyprus being one of the 54 Commonwealth Countries, it was the perfect opportunity for Kouzina Greek to showcase their award-winning Greek Cypriot cuisine and hospitality to thousands of visitors descending to Birmingham to watch the games.

From gymnastics to Paralympics, wheelchair basketball to 3x3 (basketball), cricket to athletics, lawn bowls to table tennis, rugby sevens to swimming, the narrative was (is) simple – DRAMA …in bucket loads!!!

In front of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, local superstars Joe Fraser claimed his third gold medal – as Alice Kinsella picked up her second (gold) at the Arena Birmingham.

UK Athletics can confirm that 115 athletes have been selected to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the European Championships which will take place between 15-21 August in Munich, Germany.

As outlined in the policy, the objectives were to select a team that maximised medal success, provided opportunities for developing athletes that have potential to win medals, and provided opportunities to achieve a GB & NI vest at a major Championships.

Sporting legends, record-breakers and Olympic heroes have been announced as the first of the sporting names taking part in the latest Laureus Challenge.

Australian cricketer Steve Waugh, British Olympic legend Chris Hoy, South African rugby icon Bryan Habana and world record mountaineer Annabelle Bond will lead a group of 100 inspirational fundraisers for the Laureus Challenge 2022, presented by Sierra Space, a 100km trek through the United Arab Emirates, from 14-19 November 2022.

UK Athletics and The Great Run Company are delighted to announce that the UK Athletics 5K Road Championships will take place on Great North Run weekend on Friday 9 September 2022 at the Quayside in Newcastle.

As UK Athletics continues to review its UK Championships offering across all off-track events from the end of 2022 and 2023 onwards, the announcement of this first of its kind fixture is a key commitment in our road running calendar.

Birmingham’s moment in the sun has finally arrived with the eyes of the world fixed on what will be 10 days of record-chasing, eye-popping, emotion-draining sport, the likes of which the UK’s second city has never seen before.

The Hundred is returning to Edgbaston to excite crowds with another year full of world-class sport and live entertainment, and to celebrate, there’s 100 tickets hidden across the West Midlands up for grabs.

The region’s team, Birmingham Phoenix, will be back in action in this year’s competition at Edgbaston for four unmissable home fixtures.
