Day three of the Müller UK Athletics Championships at the Manchester Regional Arena witnessed a host of eye-catching performances despite the cool temperatures and challenging winds, as British athletes impressed with World Championship qualifications and prestigious national victories.

It was a busy day one of the Müller UK Athletics Championships at the Manchester Regional Arena as a number of athletes proved this is where it starts as they kickstarted their summer Championships campaigns at the leading fixture in the domestic track and field calendar.

Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie said that the two-match Twenty20 series against world number one side India will be a great advertisement for the game. The Irish, who are ranked 14th, will be aiming to produce a major upset in the Malahide matches today (Sunday) and Tuesday.

British long jump record holder, Shara Proctor has called time on her stellar career that included medals at world, European and Commonwealth games and a sixth place at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Whilst she first took the British best mark in 2012, the 33-year-old flew to the current British long jump record of 7.07m in 2015 with her silver medal winning leap at the World Championships in Beijing.

UK Athletics has today confirmed it has officially submitted a joint bid with Birmingham City Council to host the European Athletics Championships at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium in 2026.

Working in partnership with Birmingham City Council, UKA hopes to host Europe’s most prestigious European athletics competition, seven years on from hosting the hugely successful European Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow in 2019.

Following a revision to the UK Athletics performance plans and structures, backed by the UKA Performance Management Group and UK Sport, UK Athletics can confirm that the role of Olympic Head Coach – currently held by Christian Malcolm - will be discontinued after this summer’s European Championships in Munich. Other opportunities created as a result of the revised structure will be discussed with him over that period as a number of changes are made.

The Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay has now visited 68 nations and territories of the Commonwealth in 253 days, with visits to Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales remaining in the international journey.   

It comes as, today, the Queen’s Baton Relay has completed its journey through the Isle of Man with visits to NSC Athletics Track, Peel Castle and Tynwald Hill.
