An Oxfordshire housebuilder has recently made a donation of books to Stanford Coffee Shop, a cherished community gathering place in Stanford in the Vale.

The contribution made by Barratt and David Wilson Homes – which is building new properties in the village at River Meadow – has contributed a collection of books aimed at expanding the coffee shop’s reading selection, benefiting the community it serves. Stanford Coffee Shop has long served as a vital community hub, providing a welcoming space for local residents to gather, enjoy a coffee, and connect with one another.

The donation of books, made ahead of World Book Day (6th March), will help enhance its range of titles for adult readers, further encouraging literacy, learning, and connection within the community. In addition, some of the books targeted to a younger audience donated by David Wilson Homes have been passed on by the coffee shop to Stanford Primary School, where they will be used to support students’ learning and promote reading.

Jo Hickling (pic), Director at Stanford Coffee Shop, said: “We are incredibly grateful to David Wilson Homes for their generous donation of books.

“At Stanford Coffee Shop, people frequently come in to swap their books, and having a good supply encourages even more exchanges. This has become a very popular feature of our shop.

“The coffee shop book club were thrilled with the chance to have some new books. The donation allowed the club to produce a list of titles which are now on a separate display, which are the book clubs’ recommendations.”

Campbell Gregg, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Southern, went on to add: “We are proud to support the Stanford Coffee Shop with this book donation.

“As we continue to build homes at River Meadow, it is important for us to give back to the community that has welcomed us. Enhancing local facilities like this, while also encouraging reading and educational opportunities for visitors of all ages, is something we’re delighted to be part of.”

Barratt Homes is currently building a mix of three, four and five bedroom properties at River Meadow, while David Wilson Homes’ River Meadow development currently has a selection of four bedroom homes available to reserve.
