With local and national elections just around the corner, physiotherapists have a ‘doorstep challenge’ for candidates seeking their vote. Candidates who unsuspectingly knock on the door of a physiotherapist will be asked to commit, if elected, to campaign for changes which are key to delivering better access to physiotherapy in their local area. Catherine Pope, chair of council at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, said:

“Election periods are a unique opportunity for all health workers, including physiotherapists, to find themselves face to face with those seeking to represent them.

“When members hear a knock on their door, or attend hustings events, we are encouraging them to put candidates through the wringer by asking them what they will do, if elected, to ensure even better physiotherapy services are available for people in their area. For example, by promoting access to physiotherapy in GP surgeries, backing more rehabilitation services and supporting an increase in the number of physiotherapists.

“The CSP’s 54,000 members are ready for any candidates who come calling, but are candidates ready for them?”
