For the third year running Walsall College will be part of the Premier Colleges group of lead sponsors for The Skills Show, the nation’s largest skills and careers event that helps to shape the future of a new generation. Designed to inspire the fashion designers, web developers and engineers of tomorrow, the event will be taking place from 19-21 November 2015 at the NEC Birmingham. More than 75,000 visitors from across the UK are expected to attend over the three days and find out about the exciting opportunities in further education, vocational training and apprenticeships.

Premier Colleges is a working group of 10 Midlands-based further and higher education institutions, with vocational education and training at their core. Working collectively as lead sponsors of The Skills Show, their aim is to raise the aspirations of young people, showcase the extensive choice of vocational opportunities available and provide a vital link from education to industry and employment.

Walsall College, along with all the other Premier Colleges, will feature in a collaborative FE Feature Village where there will be a host of stimulating and exciting have-a-go activities to give visitors a valuable insight into the varied skills they can learn across a number of industries by following a vocational route.

The college’s Motor Vehicle students will be volunteering their time to support some of the activities at the show including replacing spark plugs and brake plugs, using a 3-D printer and displaying vehicle painting panels.

Former Walsall College Beauty student, Danielle Maxwell will also be competing in the World Skills UK Beauty Therapy competition at the show, after being named overall winner at a regional heat earlier this year.

In addition, the college’s Public Services students will also be gaining valuable work experience to help aid their careers, by assisting the event organisers in a number of roles, including stewarding, customer service and providing logistics and technical assistance.

Principal and Chief Executive at Walsall College, Jatinder Sharma OBE, said: “Walsall College prides itself on the reputation for vocational excellence it has developed so we are really pleased to again be among the main sponsors for this year’s Skills Show.

“Our talented students will be showcasing the knowledge and skills used in today’s workplace and we hope this will inspire visitors to think about the range of career paths opened up by vocational training.”
