Group B. saw Cape Verde overcome Mozambique to become the first team to book their last-16 place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, whilst in Group C. defending champions, Senegal, booked their place with a 3-1 win over Cameroon and Guinea beat The Gambia 1-0 to move to the brink of a place in the round of 16.

Bebe (pic) got the scoring going for Caper Verde, with a strike that rocked the southern African nation on the half-hour, in a tense, but robust first half. But it wasn’t until 10 minutes into the second period that Mendes da Graça eased his team’s nerves with second goal, in the 51st minute, then Gonçalves Pereira de Pina in the 70th.

Ismaila Sarr put Senegal in front in the 16th minute and Habib Diallo made it 2-0 midway through the second half in their encounter against Cameroon, before Jean-Charles Castelletto headed in to pull one back with seven minutes remaining to set up a nervy ending. But Sadio Mane sealed their win in stoppage time.

It leaves five-time continental champions, Cameroon, with only one point after two games and will need to win their final group tie against The Gambia to progress through to the knockout stages. Guinea moves up to second in Group C. after two games.
