An Essex housebuilder has contributed £300 to support the 2025 Burnham Week regatta, one of the UK’s longest-running sailing events.
Burnham Week, established in 1893, is a week-long series of sailing events held annually in Burnham-on-Crouch, where David Wilson Homes is building new homes at Corinthian Place. The regatta features a diverse range of races, including IRC, cruisers, multihulls, keelboats, dinghies, kayaks, and gigs.
The event also boasts a vibrant social programme, with themed evenings, live music, and a traditional fireworks display, making it a highlight of the East Coast sailing calendar. This year’s regatta, held from 23rd to 30th August, attracted over 170 boats and saw fierce competition across various classes.
Burnham Week 2025 got off to a sparkling start with the Welcome Drinks Party, setting the tone for a weekend of sunshine, steady breezes, and lively shoreside celebrations. The racing featured a mix of new and returning sailors, with the 707 Class enjoying a strong revival and plenty of colourful fancy dress adding to the fun.
Highlights included Charlie Matthews winning the John Torrance Trophy midweek, and Nicholas Plank and Darren Sewell taking the Town Cup and Dinghy Town Cup over the final weekend. The event wrapped up with a festive prizegiving at the Royal Burnham Yacht Club and the traditional fireworks over the River Crouch, leaving sailors and spectators celebrating another unforgettable Burnham Week.
Annie Reid, Chair of Burnham Week, said: “With record entries, thrilling competition, and an unbeatable festival spirit, Burnham Week 2025 will be remembered as a classic – and the countdown is already on for next year!” Tom Wright, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “We are delighted to have supported this year’s Burnham Week regatta.
“It’s a fantastic celebration of the town’s maritime heritage and a great opportunity for the community to come together. Being an active developer in Burnham-on-Crouch, it’s important for us to back events that bring people together and highlight the town’s unique character.”
