Walsall College will officially launch its £11m Hub, next to its Wisemore Campus on Littleton Street West, to the community with a health themed ‘Fit and Fun Day’ on Saturday 26th September, from 10am-3pm! The Hub, which includes a business incubation centre for start-up businesses, conference and event facilities, a multi-purpose sports hall, dance and fitness studios, gym, spa, sports training and injury clinic and a 40-seat bistro restaurant all under one roof, has now opened its doors to students, businesses and the general public.

The project forms part of Walsall Council’s long-term £400 million Gigaport initiative, which is creating business and office development along the ring road corridor.

The ‘Fit and Fun Day’ is an open invitation to the community to come and experience the available facilities and even try out some sports activities.

The event kicks off at 10am with a walk, starting from The Hub and heading around Walsall Arboretum along a 5km route. Following the walk, there will be a host of free and exciting activities taking place in The Hub sports hall including football, basketball, table tennis, badminton, boccia, wheelchair football, face painting and a bouncy castle.

Barbeque food will be available and there will be an opportunity for visitors to receive a free fitness test using the latest technology in the fantastic new gym, along with information on how to improve your health.  In addition, anyone who signs up a gym membership on the day will benefit from no joining fee.

The Hub Manager, Lee Bate said: “The opening of The Hub presents a great opportunity for Walsall residents to get more involved in sports and physical activities in a brand new state-of-the-art facility.

“The Fit and Fun Day promises to be a great event, and we hope it will inspire more people to take up a new sport and work towards healthier lifestyles.”

Mark Howard, Sports Development Co-ordinator at Walsall College, commented: “The Hub is already being enjoyed by our Sport students and this event will give them the chance to gain valuable experience towards their promising careers in the industry by leading the fitness activities on the day.”

Student, Chloe Perkins, commented: “I chose to study Sport at Walsall College as the new facilities in The Hub look first class and like nowhere else. It’s a great environment to have lessons in and the college has partnerships with major sporting bodies that could help to open doors for me in my career.”
