The University of Wolverhampton is supporting 29 talented student-athletes, coaches, and match officials across 11 different sports through its WLV Sport Scholarship Programme.

For the forthcoming academic year, the University is supporting 21 new sport scholars, most of whom join us in their first year of their Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree, and welcome back 8 returning scholars, who have met the requirements for another year on the scholarship programme.

Across the three Athlete Scholarship Programmes (Gold, Silver & Bronze) there are students representing their countries in international competitions, many winning national championships and competing in national leagues.

Oluwatosin Alatise Osiemhnen, studying for a degree in Sport and Exercise Therapy and a Futsal champion, said: “Being part of the Sport Scholarship programme has helped me with fund benefits, cultural and informative online gatherings, physiotherapy sessions with a dedicated physiotherapist and access to the gym facilities. The programme motivates and inspires me every day to improve myself with regards to my career education and sport and I’m pleased to be a role model for the University and for the students.”

Shelley Ludford, studying for a degree in Midwifery and taking part in Judo competitions, said: “The Scholarship has really helped me to travel across Europe for training and has supported me with my return back onto the mat after surgery. Having support from the physio has really supported me through this difficult time, allowing me to recover quickly.”

Ben Andrew, studying for a degree in Sport and Exercise Science and taking part in Basketball competitions, said: “The WLV Sport Scholarship has fuelled my athletic aspirations while at the same time focusing on ensuring academic success. Through extra support with my training, I have more time to focus on success towards my degree.”

Natalie Gould, Sport and Physical Activity Manager and Scholarship Lead at the University, said: “WLV Sport is incredibly proud to support the journey of our student athletes and we aim to provide them with a toolkit to achieve success in their academic study and their sport. Through the performance services and facilities on campus the students develop a balance between the different demands and gain an understanding as to what works best for them in order to achieve their goals.”
