It’s a summer of fun at The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust sites - with a wide variety of events taking place over the coming months.

There will be plenty to see and do over the summer holidays for all the family - from dog shows to sports and steam weekends, and much more.

Throughout the summer - starting from 16 July and running through until 4 September - Victorian Animal Trails featuring talks and activities across all of the Trust’s museum sites will take place, with a special focus on Ironbridge’s many and varied connections with animals.

Steam lovers will rejoice on 23 and 24 July as Blists Hill Victorian Town welcomes back a variety of visiting steam engines for the ever-popular Steam Weekend. To celebrate the Commonwealth Games coming to the region this summer, a fun weekend of Victorian sports including tug-of-war and egg and spoon races will be held at Blists Hill Victorian Town on 30 and 31 July, as part of the Victorian Sports Weekend.

Four-legged, furry friends will again take centre stage at Blists Hill Victorian Town between 6-14 August for the Victorian Dog Show, where there will be prizes for the winning entries. Bring along you pooch to take part in a daily dog show at 1.30pm on the green.

During the weekend of 20 and 21 August, visitors to Blists Hill Victorian Town are being encouraged to don their tophatsand craats as part of its annual Dress Like a Victorian weekend. Dress up in your finest 1900s attire and parade around the town or stop off and see some brilliant costumes, made by IGMT’s talented team in the Victorian Fashion Show.

Rounding off the summer programme of events is the final Steam Weekend of 2022, taking place on 3 and 4 September at Blists Hill Victorian.

Richard Aldred, Marketing Manager at The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, said: “Our summer programme is absolutely jam-packed with some fantastically fun events for all the family - particularly the animal-lovers amongst us, with our fantastic Victorian Animal Trails taking place throughout the summer holidays, as well as the brilliant Victorian Dog Show, which should be good fun.

“As well as our weekend events, there’s also lots of brilliant activities going on across our museum sites during the weekdays, including clay workshops, tile decorating sessions, the chance to make a playful animal puppet and much more. We’re pleased to say that many of these sessions will be included with our newly-launched The PASS and The PASS PLUS.

“Why not bring along the family to a few of these brilliant events, we would love to see you.”
