94% of Walsall College students who completed Level 3 courses at the Ofsted outstanding college in 2014, have successfully progressed into employment or higher education. Now the college is inviting prospective students to come and find out how they can start their own successful careers though its range of vocational courses at its latest Open Day, on Saturday 17th October 2015, from 10am – 2pm.

Former students were contacted as part of the independent survey carried out on behalf of the college and 83% of respondents felt that the college had prepared them for the world of work. The majority of students had gone on to forge careers in the construction (14%), engineering (11%) and health and social care (8%) sectors after completing relevant courses in those areas.

Jaguar Land Rover, Premiere Inn, Walsall Manor Hospital, Interserve, Lloyds Bank, Specsavers, Ford and Taylor Wimpey are just some of the companies that students have gone on to secure employment with.

Jatinder Sharma OBE, Walsall College’s Principal and Chief Executive, said: “Walsall College continues to put our students on the right pathway for success through our exceptional facilities, outstanding vocational training and excellent work experience opportunities. Our curriculum is developed in partnership with industry leaders, which ensures that students graduate with the skills that employers want.

“Students are at the heart of everything we do at the college and getting them job ready is what we pride ourselves on, so we are delighted this is supported by such high progression levels.”

He added: “The Open Day is an excellent opportunity to welcome members of the community to have a look around our state-of-the-art facilities and talk to our outstanding tutors about courses. All enquiries are welcome, from school leavers to people looking to change their career direction.”

There are a range of qualifications to suit every need, including full-time, part-time, professional, higher education, apprenticeships and traineeships. A new initiative launched in last year in conjunction with Birmingham City University (BCU) means students can now study for an Honours Degree level course at the college and avoid getting into as much debt as going to university.

Courses are available in a variety of exciting areas, including, Care, Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure, Business & Management, Engineering, Construction, Creative Arts, ICT, Science and Hair & Beauty. In addition, the college’s award-winning student services team will be available to offer advice and guidance.

The Open Day will cover all areas of the college and will be held at the Wisemore and Green Lane campuses.
