A care home in Sutton Coldfield, in the West Midlands, pulled out all the stops to mark a special anniversary.

It was party time at Care UK’s Mercia Grange, on Lichfield Road, as residents and team members came together to celebrate the home’s sixth birthday. On the day, team members organised a circus-themed party with a host of games and musical activities to get everyone’s toes tapping, including a special sing-along with singer Fran Dwane and a dancing session with bubbles.

Adding to the festivities, the home’s chefs prepared circus themed birthday cakes for everyone to enjoy. Residents and team members dressed in bright circus colours and red clown noses and the home’s walls were adorned with ribbons, balloons and banners. A horse even visited the home to join in with the festivities.

To mark the occasion Home Manager, Michael McNelis, hit a pinata, while residents enjoyed mocktails and a tasty BBQ. Ghislaine Evans, 70, said: “I really enjoyed every single part of the party!

“Singing, dancing, and seeing the pony. I think it was a brilliant idea to have the circus theme.

“The decorations were so colourful, with the staff putting a red nose on mimicking a clown.” Michael McNelis, Home Manager at Mercia Grange, said: “We had a fantastic time celebrating our sixth birthday in true Mercia Grange fashion – with plenty of music.

“It has been an incredible six years, and we are grateful for everyone who has been part of this journey with us. From hosting memorable themed events for the community to joining in nationwide initiatives to promote reading or make residents’ wishes come true, it is safe to say we have been busy – but we wouldn’t change it for the world.

“We can't wait to see what the future has in store for us; may the years ahead be just as exciting as the last six.” Mercia Grange is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia, and short-term respite care.

The three-storey care home, which features 67 ensuite bedrooms, has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
