Young people interested in an apprenticeship with Sandwell Council are invited to find out more at an event next month. The council will be taking on hundreds more apprentices over the coming years. Anyone interested in starting their career with the council is urged to come along to the Council House in Oldbury on Thursday 9 March. The event, which is on from 2.30pm until 6.30pm in the council chambers, is open to young people aged 15 to 24 (and their parents if they want to come along).
Birmingham Conservatoire and Birmingham School of Acting are to merge, in a move designed to produce a single world-class home for developing the next generation of talented, versatile performers. The merger will see both the music and acting arms of Birmingham City University unite as Birmingham Conservatoire. It brings together acting and musical talent to give students the skills they need to meet the demands of today’s fast-paced creative economy.
Gifted young artists from Colton Hills School are showcasing their work at Wolverhampton Art Gallery as part of a scheme to champion the creative talents of pupils from the city. The Lichfield Street gallery invited the school’s art department to select their students’ best pieces for show in the first of the 2017 schools’ exhibitions. Dedicated space in the sculpture gallery and popular café has been made available for the Young Artists Series, which encourages schools to submit their work for show.
A University of Wolverhampton lecturer was invited by Google to speak at the British Educational Training and Technology Show (BETT) held in London recently. Dr Patricia Davies, Computer Science Lecturer in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, was asked to give a presentation covering a Java Programming MOOC for CS Teachers at the Google Education Teachers’ Theatre at BETT.
