Fans of The Hundred were invited to meet, greet and eat with cricketers from Birmingham Phoenix this weekend at Indico Mailbox, as well as get their hands on exciting goodies from the region’s sports team.
Teaming up with award-winning street kitchen and bar, Indico, the team visited the Mailbox-based restaurant yesterday (Saturday 27 August) from to celebrate the special Birmingham Phoenix ‘Brum-Wala Dhaba’ dish on the menu, which was available for a number of fans to enjoy for one day only.
The limited edition addition to the menu was created by Indico’s head chef Gulsher Khan, with the input from local hero and captain of the men’s team, Moeen Ali. The unique dish translates to the people of Brum’s ‘streetside food shop’. The Brum-Wala Dhaba takes succulent pieces of chicken and cooks it two ways – both grilled and simmered in a yoghurt masala-based curry. The dish is served with rice, roasted poppadom’s and a flatbread, and promises to leave no element of Indian cuisine untouched. For vegetarians, a paneer version of the dish is available.
To celebrate the launch of the special curry, Birmingham Phoenix invited 10 lucky fans and a plus one of their choice to join them at Indico Mailbox to sit down and enjoy the dish for free-of-charge. The first 10 people to book a table for two to eat at the restaurant online via Indico’s reservation page using the slogan ‘together we rise’ in the notes section, received an email confirmation from Indico with the details and joined the players at the colourful restaurant to enjoy the delicious dish on the house.
Players including local hero Moeen Ali, women’s skipper Sophie Devine, batter Will Smeed, world-class all-rounder Ellyse Perry and bowler Kane Richardson were in appearance, alongside two more renowned players from the region’s team.
What’s more, cricket-enthusiasts of all ages had the opportunity to meet and greet the players, where they were able to snap a memorable photo with the cricketers close to The Hundred trophy, which was also on-site for the afternoon. The Birmingham Phoenix team also gave away goodie bags during the meet and greet.
Birmingham Phoenix’s men’s and women’s teams will be back in action at Edgbaston for one more unmissable double header home fixture today (Sunday 28 August), which is set to excite crowds with another day full of world-class sport and live entertainment for the whole family. The teams will go head to head against Manchester Originals, with the women’s team getting underway at 3:30pm followed by the men’s team at 7pm. Supporters can also expect to enjoy an up-beat live performance from Jordan Mackampa.
