Legendary course designer, Tom Doak, opens North America's first reversible golf course in Michigan. Tom Doak found the perfect spot in northern Michigan, to create his reversible course (the first of its kind), which can be played in one direction one day, and the other direction the next, using the same 18 greens and fairways. The result is The Loop at Forest Dunes in Roscommon, Michigan which is due to open fully for the 2017 golf season but has been open to those staying overnight at Forest Dunes Resort during the summer of 2016.
Since the frenzied building of new golf courses in the 1990s, it's been more than ten years since Michigan has opened two new golf courses in the same season. As next year's golf season opens, golf travellers can eagerly look forward to two new courses opening full time in 2017.
The second course is the Stoatin Brae in Augusta, Michigan. Four other architects who work for Doak's firm, teamed up with the successful Scott family at Gull Lake View Resort and created the new Stoatin Brae course (which means Grand Hill in Scottish Gaelic). The open rolling terrain with strong links style characteristics will be a dramatic departure from the resorts existing wooded courses featuring dramatic views and a championship calibre course.
