The upcoming planning applications, engagement and consultation activities associated with the future of the Alexander Stadium and Perry Park are as follows:
1. Alexander Stadium legacy, and Perry Park enhancement works
Following the first stage of the Alexander Stadium Redevelopment, and the success of the Birmingham
2022 Commonwealth Games, additional funding has been secured to deliver further enhancements at the Stadium and Perry Park. We are developing proposals which support the aspirations of the Perry Barr
2040 Masterplan and seek to deliver an enhanced Park, and a multi-purpose Stadium for use by the community and to host sporting, leisure and cultural events. It is intended that a planning application for the proposed enhancements will be submitted to Birmingham City Council (BCC) for consideration in late summer 2023.
A public consultation will be held between 26 June and 23 July 2023. Feedback will be considered in the ongoing development of the design, prior to the planning application being submitted.
Please join us for our public consultation drop-in events as an opportunity to meet the project team, view the proposals and share your feedback. The drop-in event details are provided below:

The map below provides directions to the Alexander Stadium. For those travelling by vehicle, the Stadium can be accessed by Stadium Way (via Walsall Road, A34), or Church Road.
2. Change of surface to the Alexander Stadium warm-up track infield
Please also note that a non-material amendment planning application will be submitted to BCC in late summer 2023 to seek permission to change the surface of the warm-up track infield (area in the centre of the track) from grass to an artificial (3G) pitch. Non-material amendment applications are used when minor changes are needed after planning permission has been granted. The change of surface will allow the pitch to be used for a greater range of sports activities by the community, schools and athletes. If the application is approved, the surface change will be undertaken in Autumn/Winter 2023.
This planning application (2) is entirely separate to the Alexander Stadium legacy and Perry Park enhancement works application referred to above (1). Therefore, the public consultation for the
Alexander Stadium legacy and Perry Park enhancement works (1) will not cover these proposals, as they are determined by the technical requirements of the artificial pitch.
We look forward to engaging with you during this exciting time for the Alexander Stadium and Perry Park.
Yours faithfully,
The Alexander Stadium Redevelopment Team
