In a nationwide first, a cutting edge hotel, bar and restaurant will open in a formerly vacant council building in Wood Green. The Green Rooms Hotel will open in a building that had been vacant since 2009 after financial backing by Haringey Council, the Greater London Authority and private investors. It will be the first hotel in the country aimed at artists.

The hotel will play host to theatre companies, artists and other creative groups who too often find it difficult to find an affordable place to stay while putting on productions in London. The building also includes a performance and exhibition space that will be used in partnership with some of the capital’s leading cultural institutions.

The Green Rooms team were given a 10-year lease on the Haringey Council building as part of a wider scheme to bring Station Road to life, as well as funding from the GLA’s High Streets Fund.

Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Social Inclusion and Sustainability, Cllr Joe Goldberg, said: “What was once an empty council housing office has been turned into a brand new not-for-profit hotel aimed at artists and people in the creative industries visiting and working in London, part-funded by Haringey Council. The artist community are always the first to recognise the potential of the places in London that other people have missed and this is the first sign of that happening here. The Green Rooms is a great example of how councils, social enterprises and private investors can work together to deliver change that benefits the whole community.”

Co-founder Nick Hartwright said: "We set out to create something completely new and different with Green Rooms, and I believe we’ve done that – this is the UK’s first arts-led social enterprise hotel. There are thousands of hotels in London but there’s a real shortage of affordable hotel accommodation that doesn’t compromise on quality. We’re very confident that artists, creatives, style enthusiasts and the wider local community will love staying and working at Green Rooms. It’s going to be an exciting, inclusive and accessible creative environment, and we can’t wait to open the doors.”
