Passengers travelling this weekend are being warned of changes to journeys between Birmingham and Coventry while track renewal work takes place.

The carefully planned work, which will provide better and more reliable journeys, means the railway between Birmingham New Street and Coventry will be closed on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 October. Network Rail teams will be replacing track and carrying out essential maintenance, to help keep the railway safe for the tens of thousands of passengers and many freight trains which use the line every week.

The essential work will mean journeys will take longer than usual with bus replacement services in operation. Martin Colmey, operations director for Network Rail Central route, said: “I am sorry for the disruption caused while we complete this essential track renewal.

“We know there is never a good time to close the railway, but this work has been carefully planned to keep disruption to a minimum while continuing to provide a safe and reliable service for passengers and freight. If you're planning to travel, please plan ahead allowing extra time for your journey and check before you travel for the latest journey information and travel advice.”

Passengers should check www.nationalrail.co.uk or with their train operator for the latest journey information and travel advice. More information can be found at www.nationalrail.co.uk/engineering-works/coventry-25-oct-20251025.
