The Barbados Canada Association (BCA), under the patronage of the Consulate General of Barbados at Toronto, proudly hosted the 2025 Barbados Independence Gala celebrating the island’s 59th anniversary of Independence.

The beloved annual soiree which was held at Toronto’s elegant Parkview Manor brought together a lively, cross-cultural audience spanning generations, united in honouring Barbados’ legacy, achievements, and dynamic future. Guests were welcomed with a stylish cocktail hour, featuring delectable hors d’oeuvres and the smooth, soulful vocals of Kristin Lasonta backed by her band, whose performance set the tone for an elevated and festive evening.

Attendees mixed and mingled in an atmosphere rich with camaraderie, heritage, and anticipation for the night ahead. Following the reception, guests were seated for a sumptuous three-course dinner, complemented by an enthusiastic address from BCA Vice-President Reeva Goodman and an inspiring keynote speech from the Consul General of Barbados at Toronto, Anthony Branker.

Both presenters’ remarks reflected on Barbados’ continued progress, the strength of the diaspora, and the shared commitment to advancing the island’s cultural and economic development. The all-inclusive affair which raises funds for the Department of Emergency Management and the Albert Cecil Graham Development Centre continued with door prizes and raffle giveaways, heightening the excitement and offering attendees delightful opportunities to win special gifts.

Entertainment reached an exhilarating peak with a high-energy performance by Barbadian Soca sensation Terencia “T.C” Coward, who lit up the dancefloor with her infectious renditions and magnetic stage presence. The celebration further ignited as the crowd welcomed back 2 Mile Hill, who’s vibrant, powerhouse performance reaffirmed their reputation as one of Barbados’ most beloved musical ambassadors.

This year’s Gala was made possible through the generous support of its sponsors: The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., Marville Travel, Justin Phillips – RE/MAX Hallmark, ONEXBUS, and Crucible International Inc. The BCA extends its heartfelt appreciation for their commitment to uplifting the Barbadian community and enriching the diaspora experience in Canada.

The 2025 Barbados Independence Gala successfully captured the spirit of unity, cultural pride, and celebration that defines the Barbadian identity. The BCA looks forward to continuing its mission of fostering community engagement and strengthening the ties between Barbados and Canada in the years ahead.
