A primary school is enjoying the benefits of a brand-new kitchen thanks to a donation and volunteering from Hungerford-based housebuilder, David Wilson Homes Southern.
Project Manager, Alex Gray, spent four days co-ordinating the work at Swindon-based Eldene Nursery and Primary School as part of the housebuilder’s bid to help the school improve its facilities. The school’s outdated kitchen was removed, and a new one was installed, complete with a double oven – both of which were generously donated by David Wilson Homes Southern and its Managing Director, Campbell Gregg.
The project came about through ongoing conversations between Campbell and the school’s headteacher, Heather Kellett. David Wilson Homes Southern has previously supported the school by donating a shed, removing waste materials, and safely filling in an old pond flagged in health and safety reports. Heather said: “We’re absolutely delighted with our new staffroom kitchen, and I’d like to extend our sincere thanks to David Wilson Homes for their generosity in providing and fitting the kitchen.
“The kitchen upgrade has made a real difference to our staff’s daily experience, offering a comfortable and modern space to relax and recharge their batteries. It’s a much-needed investment in staff wellbeing and has boosted morale.
“We couldn’t be happier with the result!” Campbell said: “We are very proud to continue our relationship with Eldene Nursery and Primary School, and this latest project is particularly meaningful.
“Our team understands how vital community support is, especially for schools doing amazing work under tight budgets. It’s heartening to hear how the new kitchen is already making a difference, not just for the pupils who now have opportunities for cooking lessons, but also for staff members who have a welcoming space to enjoy a hot meal and come together during their busy days.
“We hope it brings them joy and a real sense of appreciation for the brilliant work they do.” The kitchen is already making a big difference.
Children can now take part in cooking lessons, and staff are enjoying hot meals throughout the school day. A new tradition of ‘pizza or jacket potato Fridays’ has helped boost team spirit and improved staff wellbeing, with many saying they feel more valued thanks to the thoughtful gesture.
The kitchen transformation was completed in just four days with the help of local trades, including Mark Paines Electric, Scitus Plumbing Services, Wiltshire Tiling, Corinium Carpentry, House and Sons, and MV Kelly.
