It’s not only Her Majesty the Queen marking a 70-year Jubilee in 2022 as BHBN Radio is also marking its 70th anniversary of broadcasting to Birmingham’s Hospitals. Rewind the clock seven decades, to a pub in Moseley in 1952, and what became BHBN was formed to keep patients at the Yardley Green Sanatorium, (now part of Heartlands Hospital), satisfied with live football and cricket commentaries, which is something the Network continues to this day!

BHBN President Robert Bartlett said: "BHBN is built on community and providing comfort and a friend for everyone from patients, to the everyday person sitting at home and looking for something more personal and familiar than commercial radio. So, we're inviting the community to get involved and share their stories, because what we do is all about them, and it's a community celebration as much as a celebration for BHBN Radio."

To mark its 70th Year, BHBN Radio is embarking on its biggest ever quest to commemorate the legacy of the Second City’s hospitals and their importance in the community across the West Midlands. And, they are asking patients, hospital staff and the general public to help to construct an oral history of the six hospitals BHBN Radio reaches.

The on-air celebrations start now, building up to a whole month’s worth of celebrations in November 2022 - which will include a 36-hour live broadcast, programmes from famous former broadcasters and community events, including a live music event at Herbert’s Yard, Longbridge Town Centre.
