The city of Birmingham has moved up to ninth in the world’s top ten destinations for large international meetings within the Northstar Meetings Group Convention Cities Index (CCi).

London is the second-ranked UK destination at 21st, with Frankfurt leading the list.

The methodology used to identify and profile the destinations considers six criteria for large events, including: indoor exhibit space, hotel rooms in close proximity, the average room rate, distance to the airport, safety scores and the number of flights per month.

“Birmingham presents event organisers with a strong proposition in terms of its connectivity, accommodation, thriving bars and restaurants and its conference space,” said Kelly Haslehurst, Marketing Director, Conventions & Exhibitions.

“In terms of the venues we can offer within the NEC Group, we have the International Convention Centre in the heart of the city, the NEC Conference Suites a stone’s throw from Birmingham Airport and the Vox Conference Venue, which offers a premium experience in terms of conferencing and events."
