Carers across Haringey were celebrated as the borough unveiled its new Carers Strategy at the iconic Alexandra Palace.
The uplifting document, launched on Carers Rights Day, prioritises practical improvements that make a real difference to carers’ lives. It aims to ensure clearer and more timely access to information, deliver faster Carer’s Assessments, and offer a better range of respite options.
Support for carers’ health, wellbeing, and employment will be strengthened, while placing a focus on training. With the aim of highlighting the unwavering strength of carers, many of whom support others without recognition, the new strategy focuses on lived experiences to shape the priorities and delivery of future support.
Councillor Lucia das Neves, Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care and Wellbeing said: “Carers are the heart of our communities.
“This strategy is more than just a document - it’s a commitment to listen, to act, and to stand together with every carer in Haringey, in London. Launching it on Carers Rights Day is a powerful reminder of the rights carers hold and the respect they deserve.
“Whether they are balancing work and family, navigating their own health while caring for someone else, or part of a community that’s often underrepresented - this strategy is for them.
“It reflects their journey, their challenges, and their aspirations. We know carers value connection, collaboration, and being heard.
“Their experiences have shaped this strategy, ensuring it’s rooted in real life and focused on delivering meaningful change. This is our roadmap to improving wellbeing, resilience, and recognition for carers of all backgrounds.
“And we’re committed to walking that path together - side by side with carers, bringing their priorities to life.” This transformative document is a shared achievement and builds on previous learning.
“Reflecting on the voices carers, it was co-produced with carers, community organisations, and partners across health, social care, and the voluntary sector. It reflects the Haringey Deal: a commitment to co-designing and co-delivering services with residents, ensuring they are inclusive, responsive, and rooted in real life.
Haringey is proud to stand with its carers and to build a borough where they are seen, heard, and supported.
