A Shrewsbury car retailer has received a prestigious award for its continued efforts in striving towards a zero-emissions future and tackling the ongoing climate crisis.

Volvo Cars Shrewsbury, an approved Volvo dealer on Featherbed Lane, has received the Electric Vehicle Accreditation (EVA) by the National Franchised Dealers Association (NDFA) for its recognition in promoting more sustainable transport options.

The accreditation recognises how the retailer educated local people about the gradual move towards electric vehicles ahead of the government’s plan to end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030. 

The EVA aims to encourage retailers to lead the way in the uptake of electric vehicles in a bid for a greener future, endorsed by the Government’s Office for Zero Emissions (OZEV) and Energy Saving Trust. To become accredited, retailers must demonstrate the highest level of expertise in both electric vehicle sales and aftersales.

The standards required to receive the accreditation are audited by the Energy Saving Trust, which ensures that all staff are competent in their knowledge of electric vehicles and have the correct training, qualifications, and knowledge of regular electric vehicle procedures. The NDFA also assesses a retailer’s electric service bays and the charging points made available to customers.

“This training includes charging an EV, different models and their environmental impacts, fuel consumption for plug-in hybrid models (PHEV) and guidance on servicing and maintenance. We know that for many customers, electric vehicles remain yet to be explored.
