An apprenticeship scheme run in partnership between Makers Construction and Walsall College has been shortlisted for a national award. The Lichfield-based structural refurbishment firm is up for a Front Line award at the 2016 British Parking awards. The award recognises outstanding performance by staff in the sector.
Simon Lamb, Managing Director at Makers, said: “Working closely with the college we developed a very sophisticated 5-year apprenticeship programme and in 2014 we took on two Level 3 Construction Management apprentices. Following the success of this scheme and recognition by the CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building), we took on another three apprentices last year. We also are currently in discussions to progress them onto a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Construction, the equivalent to the first year of a degree course.
“We see apprenticeships as the lifeblood of our business, and it has been a great investment for us as an SME, so we are delighted to have received this nomination.”
Created and presented by Parking Review magazine, the British Parking Awards are an independent competition. Now in its 14th year, the awards recognise the leading examples of car park management, enforcement, design and team work. The winners will be announced at a gala lunch held at the Lancaster Hotel in London on Friday 4th March.
