Families with young children who want to lead healthier lifestyles are being encouraged to find out more about an eight-week support programme. The ONE Family programme, run by Wolverhampton's Hearty Lives team, helps families with children aged between two and four to improve their health and wellbeing. It focuses on the importance of eating a balanced diet and having appropriate portion sizes, on active play and oral health. It also offers positive parenting advice and includes physical activity sessions and practical cookery demonstrations.

Two new ONE Family courses begin in September, one in Pennfields and another in Bilston, and families interested in taking part are asked to contact the Hearty Lives team for more information.

Councillor Paul Sweet, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: "The ONE Family programme has been very successful, with families who have previously taken part saying it has helped them lead healthier lives.

"They have been able to make positive changes including introducing better eating habits and increasing their levels of physical activity; many have reduced the amount of time their children sit in front of the television or computers and are instead spending more time being active.

"It's also a great way to meet other families alike and share their experiences of bringing up young children.

"I would encourage parents with young children who would like help and support to live more healthily to give our Hearty Lives team a call to find out more about the ONE Family programme."

The ONE Family programme is free and open to families with children aged between two and four. For more information, please contact the Hearty Lives team on 01902 551197 or 07552 211482.

Weight management programmes are also available for children aged two to 18.
