Created to celebrate the beauty of the Sri Lankan wilderness combined with the artistic talents of one of Sri Lanka's greatest living artists, Laki Senanayake, Diyabubula offers a unique insight into the nature, art and culture that makes Sri Lanka a standout destination.
Nestled away in the middle of the jungle you'll find five individually designed villas created by Laki Senanayake who chose 100-year old railway sleepers as basic building material. The wood, seasoned by sun and rain over a century, has been combined with sleek and beautiful timber sourced from all over Sri Lanka and hand-crafted at Diyabubula.
At the heart of Diyabubula is Laki's studio where the artist himself resides and regularly encourages guests to draw and paint with him enjoying beautiful natural surroundings. A sprouting water bubble forms part of the water garden at Diyabubula and is an ideal location for bird enthusiasts to spot various visiting species.
Keeping with the natural environment of Diyabubula, a highly skilled team of chefs prepare fresh locally sourced food respecting the traditional principles of no meat and alcohol.
Located in the middle of the cultural centre of Sri Lanka, Diyabubula is an ideal place from which to explore the art and architecture of the country's world heritage sites including: the cave temple of Dambulla, the massive rock fortress of Sigiriya and the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. Experience nature, wildlife and mountains of Sri Lanka by visiting nearby natural sites such as Rose Quartz Mountain, Ritigala Forest Reserve and the Minneriya National Park where every year between the months of July and October up to 200 wild elephants come together on the receding shores of the reservoir.
