Bantock House is turning the clock back for a weekend giving visitors the chance to experience life in the 1940s. The beautifully restored Edwardian house and gardens is holding its annual World War II Weekend on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 September. Enthusiasts from Nostalgia Unlimited will be dressed as all sorts of characters from the 1940s including a classic spiv, a doctor, soldiers and women in fabulous wartime fashions.

Family fun and nostalgia is guaranteed with music from the period, trade stalls and activities with highlights including displays and re-enactments as well as a selection of civilian and military vehicles.

As in previous years, organisers hope many visitors will come along in 1940s dress, both everyday clothing and uniform from the war years and, although vintage clothing is not compulsory, it is very much encouraged. Visitors can even buy 1940s clothing, bunting, vintage homeware and jewellery.

Councillor John Reynolds, cabinet member for City Economy, said: “‘This immensely popular event is returning to Bantock for its 12th year. There is something for all the family to enjoy and to experience how it was to live more than 70 years ago during the Second World War.”

Bantock House is in Finchfield Road. Current opening times are Tuesday to Sunday: 11am – 5pm.
