United States’ First Lady Michelle Obama told pupils at a girls' school that education is the "ultimate key" to their success. Accompanied by her mother and two daughters, she was greeted by screams and cheers, as she talked about her own working-class background in Chicago, in a speech at Mulberry School for Girls in east London.

The visit, part of her global initiative to promote female education, saw her talking to the students in Tower Hamlets telling them that the world needed "more girls like you to lead our parliaments, our courtrooms and universities.”

Obama, said "With an education, you all have everything to rise above all the noise and fulfil all of your dreams. It’s important that you do that. Not just for yourself, but for all of us. The world needs more girls like you. We need you."

There’s people like me, my husband who are standing with you. We want to make sure the door is opened for girls like you.”

Whilst in Britain promoting the Let Girls Learn initiative she also met Prince Harry at Kensington Palace and had tea with the Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha at Downing Street.
