Garmin has announced the certification of its revolutionary Runway Occupancy Awareness (ROA) technology, designed to prevent runway incursions and collisions.
This innovative software, utilizing Surface Indications and Alert (SURF-IA) technology, has received initial FAA certification for the Cessna Caravan equipped with the G1000 NXi system. It will soon be available for the Cessna Citation Excel and other aircraft models.
ROA leverages ADS-B traffic and aircraft GPS data to provide real-time alerts about potential runway hazards, including airborne aircraft, ground vehicles, and other obstacles. The system offers visual and aural warnings through Garmin’s Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT) and SafeTaxi map, enhancing situational awareness for pilots navigating busy airports.
With increasing runway incursions, Garmin’s ROA technology aims to bolster cockpit safety by delivering timely alerts and reducing collision risks. This new addition complements Garmin's existing Terminal Safety Solutions, including Runway Overrun Awareness and Alerting System (ROAAS) and Garmin SurfaceWatch.
