Kale juice, faddy diet plans and Lycra are all off the menu as a new no-nonsense fitness class reaches Birmingham this January.  A new fitness session has been devised by Kwik Fit technicians and personal trainer Mikah Simpson, using only car and van tyres which are readily available at centres up and down the country. The stripped down, no-frills exercise regime is being launched by the car servicing giant, with initial sessions available from their Halesowen centre billed as ‘Fit Kwik’.

The back-to-basics fitness class, consisting of tyre flips, lifts and throws – during which participants can expect to burn up to 1200 calories – is now being trialled in South West Birmingham. Each free session lasts 30 minutes and will run on two Sunday mornings this January.

The class was devised after Kwik Fit technicians noticed a link between their fitness levels and strength and lifting hefty tyres on a daily basis. At centres up and down the country and even head office, technicians and staff can be found starting their day with the new exercise routine.

Three Kwik Fit staff members are so passionate about the project, they even agreed to strip off to promote it in a stylish homage to photographer Herb Ritts’ iconic “Fred with Tires.” Louis Lecointe (31, London), Paul Hernandez (31, London) and Monuf Abdul (29, Stevenage) all took part in the shoot with renowned celebrity photographer Jim Marks.

Following high demand for the initial sessions advertised in London at the start of this month, Kwik Fit quickly decided to widen the trial area to include Birmingham (24th, 31st January) and have also launched in Edinburgh (further sessions 24th, 31st January). Should the test period be successful in these sites, the classes will be rolled out to more centres. Customers wanting to take part can register their interest here: www.kwikfit.com/fitkwik

Birmingham’s Halesowen Kwik Fit branch has been open since 1997, starting as a simple tyre and exhaust centre. It has now become one of Kwik Fit’s leading centres, offering advanced services for customers, such as servicing, MOTs, laser wheel alignment and air conditioning recharge. Its reception area has been hugely upgraded with free wi-fi and TVs.

Tom Curtis, Customer Liaison Manager for Kwik Fit’s Halesowen centre says “In January, everyone is talking about the hottest new workouts or the latest faddy diet plans – but we think people will appreciate a no-nonsense fitness class this year. ‘Fit Kwik’ is a stripped down class lasting 30 minutes, and only requires a handful of tyres in the car park of our centre in Birmingham.  The trial is open to anybody who is looking to shift that post-Christmas spare tyre, with our spare tyres!”

Personal Trainer Mikah Simpson says: “There’s no doubt tyres are a brilliant foundation to a work out – not only for lifting, but on the floor during cardio exercises. The most important thing when getting fit is to simply get started and do something you enjoy. We promise to create a fun atmosphere and leave participants feeling that they’ve done something worthwhile.”

For those who can’t make it down to the fitness classes, Kwik Fit have released a ‘Fit Kwik’ fitness plan and a series of instructional videos for people to try at home. All you need is a spare car tyre. YOUTUBE LINK- https://www.14dd5266c70789bdc806364df4586335-gdprlock/watch?v=GXq6qSZebCg. INFOGRAPHIC - https://www.kwik-fit.com/fitkwik
