John Taylor Hospice is looking for craftspeople, DIY experts and artists to run workshops for patients, families and local people. The workshops and groups will all take place in the hospice’s newly launched Moments Shed, which is housed in the grounds of the hospice in Erdington. The inspiration for Moments Shed came from John Taylor’s Well-Being and Heart of the Hospice Teams to encourage patients and families to find emotional support through coming together and enjoying practical tasks.
Fully insulated and with electricity, Moments Shed will welcome patients, carers, bereaved family members and the wider community in small groups for different activities.
John Taylor Hospice service improvement manager Phil Murphy said: “Moments Shed is a safe space in which people can be together to make things, talk, spend time and find social and emotional support through connecting with lost skills, developing new skills and sharing skills with others.
“We would love to hear from anyone who could run some of these workshops and sessions. We are interested in all different ideas - it could be seasonal endeavours such as making bird boxes or festive decorations, arts and crafts, DIY and woodwork, gardening or any other activities which bring people together.”
Moments Shed has been funded by a grant from Birmingham Airport which supports local community groups and charities which lie under its flight paths.
John Taylor Hospice provides specialist palliative and end of life care to local families both at the hospice and in the local community. Its Well-Being Team offers a range of therapies to patients and their families.
