Laura Kyrke-Smith, Executive Director of International Rescue Committee UK, responds to the UK Government’s pledge of £372m to protect the most vulnerable from hunger and malnutrition announced at the G7 Summit:

“The war in Ukraine is exacerbating a global hunger crisis of frightening proportions. Of course, yesterday’s funding and commitment is welcome but it must now be released rapidly to humanitarians who can save lives quickly in the Horn of Africa and beyond.

“Funding must be targeted at the women and girls who are most acutely affected, forced to take the greatest risks to feed their families. With quick action, widespread famine is still preventable.”
