Birmingham-based property consultancy Johnson Fellows has advised Co-op Group as it launches its new ‘on-the-go’ micro stores - a first for the national grocer.

The initial stores, located in Altrincham, Solihull and Aylesbury, mark the rollout of a modern, compact retail format designed to cater to the grab-and-go market, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7am to 7pm. The new concept is around a quarter of the size of the Co-op Group’s standard convenience stores, with new operating hours and a dedicated product range, including deli-inspired selections and over the counter hot food.

Johnson Fellows has advised the Co-op Group’s team on the site selection and strategy for this fresh format in high foot traffic locations across the country. The first stores have already opened their doors, with stores following shortly in Kingston and Chelmsford. Further store openings will be announced over the coming weeks.

Chris Gaskell (pic), Partner and Head of Agency at Johnson Fellows, said: “Our work with Co-op Group highlights how retailers are innovating their offer, adapting to the changing market and consumer habits by offering fast, quality food on the go.

“Our team worked closely with the Co-op Group team to identify high footfall locations with maximum visibility, ensuring each site supports the new micro-store model and Co-op’s wider growth strategy. This demonstrates how strategic property planning and insight can help retailers stay ahead of market shifts and future-proof their store portfolios.”
