Mytime Active is one of the first leisure operators in the country to be awarded a new mark of excellence that demonstrates its commitment to ensuring quality, safety and inclusivity for customers and staff at its facilities across Birmingham.
The Active Standard (TAS) was launched by ukactive in November 2024, the UK’s trade body for the physical activity sector, which is committed to improving the nation’s health through promoting active lifestyles. TAS is designed to give customers confidence, knowing leisure providers showing the TAS mark are taking their health and wellbeing, as well as their safety, seriously.
Mytime Active is an independent charity and social enterprise that operates leisure facilities across the UK, ploughing any surpluses made by the business directly back into the community. Mytime Active was one of eight leisure operators involved in testing the scheme during a pilot phase of TAS.
It followed the successful launch of Mytime Active’s Musculoskeletal (MSK) Health Hubs project to support people living with chronic joint pain, which forms part of a two-year research project by ukactive. Steve May, Operations Director at Mytime Active says: “Our family-friendly facilities aim to support every segment of the community, from children and parents to golfers and older people, on their journey to a more active lifestyle.
“Achieving the new TAS certification gives us the opportunity to actively validate the quality of our facilities and our adherence with industry regulations to customers in a meaningful way, as well as the healthcare partners who refer people to us for a wide range of support needs.” TAS accreditation is open to any sport, fitness or leisure facility in the UK that is a member of ukactive and is achieved through a 40-question independent assessment with the sector’s health and safety and quality management expert, Right Directions.
It covers health and safety practices, professional standards, safeguarding procedures and data protection processes. May continues: “Boosting the confidence of the public around entering health, fitness and leisure facilities to enhance their health, wellbeing and physical activity opportunities is a priority for us, and the TAS quality mark will support this aim by ensuring all facilities, big or small, are operating to the same high benchmarks.”
TAS has been four years in development by ukactive in partnership with leading standards professionals and organisations across the UK and Europe.
