Legendary singer and music producer Lee "Scratch" Perry has died at the age of 85. Known for his pioneering experiments in dub, which revolutionised not only reggae, but also hip hop, dance and other genres.

For over seven decades he worked with a number of legendary stars including Bob Marley and the Wailers, Sir Paul McCartney, Junior MurvinThe CongosMax RomeoAdrian SherwoodBeastie BoysAri UpThe Clash and The Orb as he also won a Grammy in 2002, was nominated four other times - in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2014 - and received a Jamaican national honour, the Order of Distinction.

Bicester Heritage has confirmed that it will once again be opening its doors for historic motoring enthusiasts to join the October Scramble event, on October 10, with the release of 5000 tickets.

From 9am until 2pm, attendees will be able to live, breathe and experience historic motoring at its best, offering the chance for enthusiasts to bring their pre-1990 classic car, join the display and experience a behind the scenes glimpse of the hub for historic motoring enterprise at the best-preserved WW2 RAF Bomber Station in the country.

In an age of uncertain events and turbulent times, Tobago-based artiste Kervern Carter seeks to be a lighthouse in the storm with his latest musical release, ‘Heal the World with Love’. Heal the World with Love was written and produced by Carter with music by Orange Sky’s Nigel Rojas (bass) & Dax Cartar (guitar), additional background vocals from Terri Lyons and was recorded at Proden Studios.

This latest track was inspired by the singer-songwriter’s own battles with depression, self-acceptance and self-love and his ability to tap into inner strength and peace in order to restore himself to a place of emotional equilibrium.

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has announced seven ‘socially distanced’ performances of its new musical; The Magician’s Elephant, which will run throughout November and December 2021 in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

The venue will operate at reduced capacity for seven Tuesday evening performances throughout the run, beginning from 2 November at 7.15pm. Audiences will be seated with an empty row in front of and behind them and with one empty seat between parties to ensure 1m+ social distancing. Audience members will also be asked to wear a mask throughout their visit unless exempt.

Birmingham Royal Ballet is today excited to announce that for one year only the Company will be bringing an exclusive adaptation of Sir David Bintley’s Royal Albert Hall production of The Nutcracker to Birmingham Hippodrome audiences this November, marking the first time this version has been performed outside London.

New research into the experiences of performers of colour in the British entertainment industries has revealed institutional racism performers of colour continue to face in the pursuit of their careers.

Commissioned by the Sir Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity at Birmingham City University and the Personal Managers Association with support from the Casting Director’s Guild, the survey of 1300 respondents collected between March and April paints an alarming picture of audition, casting and hair and make-up experiences. The study is believed to be the largest survey of British actors on diversity and the auditioning process to date.

A new survey has revealed that Birmingham Botanical Gardens is the most popular place in Birmingham for local people to ‘take a breath’ and connect with their lungs. The survey, commissioned by Taskforce for Lung Health, invited local residents to name their favourite city location where they can enjoy their own breathing space, as part of a brand-new awareness campaign around lung health.

Birmingham Botanical Gardens, a 15-acre garden in Edgbaston, was the most popular choice with 21% of the vote. This was followed by city locations Cannon Hill Park (19%), canal-side at Mailbox (17%), Winterbourne Gardens (10%) and St Paul’s Square (10%).

A deeply damaging and inflexible workplace culture is preventing disabled workers working in the British television industry from progressing in their careers, according to a new research. The Career Routes and Barriers for Disabled People in the UK TV Industry report is released by the Sir Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity (LHC) at Birmingham City University.

In the research, colleague’s attitudes toward disabled workers and lack of employer understanding about their legal obligations are revealed as the most common barriers to disabled industry professionals staying and advancing in UK screen industry roles. The study also identifies lack of employer understanding about adjustments required by some disabled workers, and describes ‘consistent difficulties’ experienced by disabled people in the industry.

Don Everly, the surviving member of the rock 'n' roll duo The Everly Brothers, has died. A family spokesperson confirmed Everly's death to the Los Angeles Times, but did not disclose the cause.

Don and his brother, Phil, had hits worldwide in the late 1950s and early 1960s, including Bye Bye Love and All I Have To Do Is Dream. They were known for their close harmonies, and influenced groups like The Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel.
